ON THE VERSATILITY OF MAKEUP
“I always grew up watching my mom do her makeup. She’s really good at it. I always used to beg her to give me mini makeovers and then finally I convinced her. My favorite part of makeup would be how versatile it is. I can take my NARS blush and use it as both eyeshadow and lipstick. That really has happened! I have even used some lipsticks as a blush. It definitely comes in handy when I’m rushing out the door and only have time to grab one product!
ON HER SKINCARE PRIORITIES
My biggest skincare priorities are making sure to always wash my face and keep my face and body moisturized. Since I was a little girl, my mom always told me to wash my face before going to bed and as soon as I wake up. It’s just sort of stuck with me. As for moisturizing, I make sure to do so twice a day, especially during winter.
TOP 5 BEAUTY PRODUCTS
I use my Soy Face Cleansing Milk by Fresh twice a day, every day. I actually received it as a sample from Sephora about a month ago and still haven’t run out of it. I love how little of this product you need – a little goes a really long way! The first thing I do when I wake up is wash my face. I start by rinsing my face with cold water to wake me up, and then I use a cotton pad and apply the cleanser on my face. After 2 minutes, I rinse the cleanser off with water. I do the exact same thing before I go to bed. My face feels super soft right after I use the cleanser. It’s also really gentle too. I’m confident it’s baby approved.
Lately, I’ve been loving Butter London’s Iconoclast Mega Volume Lacquer Mascara. This mascara was actually one of the goodies from my winter FabFitFun box. For those of you that aren’t familiar with FabFitFun, they are a lifestyle subscription box that comes four times a year. Each season they send you a box worth over a $100 of beauty, fashion and fitness items for $50 American or about $80 Canadian which includes taxes, shipping, and customs. It only takes me 2-3 coats of this mascara to get my desired look and I’ve been using it every single day. I love how this mascara adds so much length to my lashes and never clumps. I find the applicators on other mascara wands are typically hard to use for the corners of your eyelashes. Butter London’s mascara has a little ball tip that helps me get those hard to reach corners. I’m still on my first tube and I’ve had it for about a month now with no signs of it running out anytime soon.
Macadamia Natural Oil’s Deep Repair Masque is a staple in my bathroom cabinet. My hair tends to get really dry in the winter so this becomes my go-to hair product during that season. This mask helps nourish my hair by giving it a really deep conditioning. After I’ve showered and washed my hair, I’ll massage a generous amount of the mask onto my roots and work my way down to my ends. I leave it in for about ten minutes or so then rinse it out. It leaves my hair feeling silky and smooth. As much as I love this mask I have to limit myself to using it only once or twice a week as anything more and my hair will tend to get greasy. This product costs $36 but it lasts a while since you’re not supposed to it every day. I think it’s definitely worth it. I’d say my most recent container has lasted me about 3 months, but keep in mind my hair is short right now. I buy this must-have mask at either Shoppers Drug Mart or Pharma Prix.
I have a hard time finding a blush that looks good with my complexion but Nars Blush in Orgasm is the perfect pink. It’s not too light and it’s not too dark. I love that it is super pigmented yet very natural looking. It’s a little pricey at $38 but this blush is definitely worth the cost. It lasts a long time and like I said, it’s very pigmented so you only need the smallest amount per application. In my experience, I’ve found that when I use drugstore makeup, it never lasts me very long. While some other brands may be cheaper in price, they’re never as pigmented as Nars blushes.
I absolutely love my YSL Touche Eclat Foundation. I’ll be restocking it as soon as I run out. I love that one bottle lasts me such a long time. At $65 it is quite pricey and probably the most expensive foundation I’ve ever used but I’m currently in my third month using the same bottle. I apply 4 drops of foundation to a foundation brush and use that to blend the product all over my face, then ta-da! All done. I love how this foundation applies so flawlessly and it offers me full to heavy coverage without feeling like I caked on pounds of makeup.”
