ON HER PERSONAL BEAUTY STYLE
“When it comes to makeup I believe that less is more. I’m actually like a low maintenance human that looks like a high maintenance one. For example, I was using my husband’s dual-purpose Old Spice shampoo for like 3 weeks a couple months ago because I ran out of my own. I finally got a normal shampoo and conditioner again which I find suits me much better. Another example would be me with moisturizer. I basically only moisturize my face with whatever sample Sephora has available to redeem with points at checkout. I’ll use it until it runs out and then will go get another one [laughs].
ON THE BEST SKINCARE ADVICE SHE HAS RECEIVED
A friend of mine told recently told me that coconut oil was really good for basically anything. I have since been using it every morning and night as a moisturizer, lip balm, and eye cream. I even use it overnight to strengthen my hair and eyelashes!
ON HER BIGGEST BEAUTY REGRET
My biggest beauty regret would have to be not listening to anyone who told me to wash my makeup off at night and to start moisturizing at a young age. Luckily, my skin has never been temperamental so I never really had to take much care of it, but as I get older I fear that one day my bad habits will catch up with me.
TOP 5 BEAUTY PRODUCTS
I wash my hair every second day with Redken’s All Soft Shampoo & Conditioner. Luckily, it was gifted to me in a box set for Christmas. If I hadn’t received it I probably would have kept using my husbands dual-purpose Old Spice [laughs]. This product makes my hair super soft without weighing it down. I alternate between this and my dry shampoo, Tresemme Fresh Start, which is a gift from God to every mom. I look completely gray until I brush it through but it gets me through not having time to wash my hair in the mornings.
I used to live off MAC face wipes until I ran out one day and realized my toddler’s shampoo and body wash worked just as well. Thank God I do not have sensitive skin, because yes, I use Johnson’s Head to Toe Baby Wash as my makeup remover. I love how convenient it is for me to use because it is always in my house! I use this product every night before bed as I force myself to wash my face. It’s pretty easy to use. First I rinse my face with hot water, and then I put some of the body wash on the face cloth and then simply wipe my makeup off. I then rinse with cold water and dry my face on a towel to finish. I’m not sure that there are any actual benefits to my skin in using this product, however, not having to spend a lot of money on wipes anymore has benefitted my bank account. I would have those forty dollars worth of MAC wipes gone so fast! I’d even occasionally use them to clean my sink [laughs].
I wear my Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain #13 in Marvelous Mauve every day, no matter the occasion. One of my best friends picked it out for me as my wedding lip colour. She ended up buying it for me for my birthday and I have been using it religiously ever since. I wear it to work, the office, out running errands, for a night out – it is the best! I can put this lip stain on in the morning on my way to work and still have it on well into the afternoon. Same goes for a night out, I find it doesn’t lose its colour after I eat or drink. I love how long it lasts and that it doesn’t even feel like I have anything on my lips. I especially love that I don’t have to constantly reapply or check to make sure it is not all over my face.
I came across the Pro Longwear Concealer by MAC on a trip to Hawaii. I was pregnant at the time and was looking for something to make me look a little less tired. I was finding that the dark circles under my eyes were getting nearly impossible to cover up. This concealer is amazing. It is the first makeup product I put on my face in the morning. I build up as much coverage as I need under my eyes and then blend it out with my beauty blender. After that’s finished, I set it with my Secret Brightening Powder by Laura Mercier to prevent creasing. It camouflages dark circles so easily and literally lasts the entire day. It’s also super useful in covering up blemishes. In my opinion, this concealer is worth every penny. I love all MAC products they have such great value!
A couple months ago I ran out of my favourite, but expensive foundation so I kept mixing every little bit of what I had from the bottoms of several almost empty containers instead of buying a new one – don’t judge. Once I finally went to Sephora so desperately in need of a new foundation, I had a bit of an epiphany. As I was assessing the different price points for a foundation, I remembered how much I loved my Sephora lip stain and how much cheaper it was in comparison to other brands they carried. I decided to test out some of their house brand foundation in hopes of having the same experience, and it was a success! I now use my Sephora 10hr Wear Perfect Foundation every day. It is one of those foundations you can build up to meet your coverage needs. It’s super easy to apply and I put about a quarter-sized amount of foundation on top of my blender and dab it all over my face. Side note: I don’t think I would ever be able to not use a beauty blender anymore. It’s so effortless compared to foundation brushes. I have tested out a lot of foundations in my day, my favorite foundation probably being Makeup Forever’s Ultra HD Foundation– but this Sephora one comes really close to it and gives me great value for the price.”
