ON THE BEST BEAUTY ADVICE
“The best piece of beauty advice I’ve received has been from my mum. She taught me about the importance of skincare and that no matter how much makeup you put on, a well-maintained and natural complexion is key. So I have always done my best to exfoliate and moisturize to keep my skin at its best. She also always emphasized that less is more; a natural look can work wonders!
ON HER FAVOURITE PARTS OF MAKEUP AND BEAUTY
I enjoy the fact that different makeup styles can totally change the intention of an outfit for different occasions – it adds another dimension to your overall look and I think that’s fun! My approach and relationship with makeup are also continuously evolving. I find myself regularly learning new application techniques and about new brands.
ON HER BEAUTY PRIORITIES
When I was little I had a big blue makeup box that I would fill with my mum’s Clinique freebies she didn’t want. I would sit on the floor and try on the most vibrant colours of makeup I could find – always going overboard with the blush. Now, my beauty priorities are keeping my skin healthy and masking the occasional fatigue that can manifest in one’s physical appearance.
TOP 5 BEAUTY PRODUCTS
I received a set of 3 GlamGlow facemasks for Christmas and I think they are amazing. I believe there is a total of 6 different masks in this particular line, of which I have Thirstymud , Supermud, and Youthmud. I use the Thirstymud hydrating treatment whenever my skin is on the dry side –it’s a total go-to for me in the winter. When I feel like my skin needs some rehydration, I’ll fully cover my face with a thin layer of the product before bed so that it can soak into my skin overnight. You do however have the option to wash it off. On top of rehydrating my skin, this product always leaves me with a soft glowing complexion. I find its fruity coconut scent calming and love using it. I use the Supermud clearing treatment twice a month specifically to get rid of blackheads along my T-zone; I find that’s all my skin needs. You can use it up to twice a week, if necessary. I keep it on for 15 minutes and then wash it off with warm water, rubbing to slightly exfoliate my skin. This treatment was developed to clear blemishes and redness; it also allows your skin’s natural oils to balance leaving you with a bright and softer complexion. The Supermud mask smells of eucalyptus, which I find very refreshing and calming. It also releases antioxidants that tighten and firm up the skin. I usually read or watch TV when it’s on – I don’t find it bothers me at all. It leaves my skin super soft after I use it and I notice its pore-clearing benefits last for quite a while. I tend to use the Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment sporadically on occasions where my skin feels as though it needs some exfoliation. I apply it to my face for about ten minutes after which I scrub it off with water for some effective and efficient exfoliation. There is a tingly sensation that caught me by surprise when I first used this product, but it doesn’t last very long and once you get used to its fine. Truthfully, these masks are a little pricey, and I don’t have experience with many other face masks so I can’t really compare it to others. That being said, I have yet to try anything other than the Glamglow products because I love them so much.
I use my Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ every morning and every night after I wash my face. My mum has been using this product since she was 17 and she introduced it to me when I was 13 and I find it keeps my skin perfectly hydrated. I have pretty healthy skin and really believe this product plays a major role in keeping it that way. I get great value with this product; I use about one pump per application and one bottle lasts me a very long time. This moisturizer absorbs quickly, keeps my skin soft but not at all oily, and allows me to apply my makeup more or less right after I moisturize.
I love Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief by Clinique because no other cream can calm down a dry spot on my skin so quickly like this one can – I can always rely on it! I typically use this product on any dry skin I may have before putting makeup on. It absorbs quite quickly and I find it allows the makeup to sit properly instead of caking on top of the dry skin. Since I only use this product in very small amounts, a small bottle lasts me about one year. I get great value for the price!
YSL’s Top Secret BB Cream is the first foundation I have ever tried and I love it too much to try another. I would say that I have neutral skin in the summer that gets a little drier in the winter. This summer I was interested in finding a product that makes my skin look clear and even toned, and this BB cream fit the bill. I find it gives me light coverage; it evens out my skin tone quite nicely without feeling like I have lathered tons of foundation on. I usually wear this BB cream when I am going out for dinner or an event. To apply, I take three dabs of product and spread across my face and neck using my fingers. I find using a foundation brush with this BB cream to be very inefficient because the brush ends up absorbing most of the product since it is so light. I love this product because it almost perfectly matches the tone of my skin; it blends in with my natural colouring exceptionally well.
I love Nars Matte Lipsticks. My roommate introduced them to me and I now have them in multiple colours. My absolute favourite shade is ‘Tokin’, also my bolder shade, ‘Volga’. These lipsticks last me quite a while as I tend to only wear lip colours when I dress up, so maybe once a week. I don’t find it necessary to use a lip liner with these lipsticks, but you probably could if you wanted to. I find it stays on nicely without cracking or rubbing off too quickly, and typically only have to reapply once throughout the night. I love the colours and the matte effect this lipstick provides compared to other matte products out there.”
